We need strong leaders to guide our students today into teaching and education if we have any hope for our schools and communities to grow stronger in the future. At PDK International and Educators Rising, we believe we can lead from any seat. To this end, we are looking for a dynamic and devoted education leader to guide Educators Rising’s Grow Your Own initiative in the state of California as it continues to develop and grow its programming.
The Position:
This position will serve at the ground level in California and report to the PDK’s Educators Rising national office to coordinate programs, facilitate curriculum implementation, execute California’s state and regional events, and lead the state student officer team. The California State Director will act as the executor and liaison between the national office and the California Department of Education (CDE) to ensure the smooth and professional execution of the program. This position is funded via the CDE Golden State Pathways Grant Program.
This is an exciting time for PDK’s Educators Rising, with a growth in interest from districts and states in our “grow your own” educator pathway initiatives, our commitment to diversity in education, and our efforts to inspire middle school, high school, and collegiate preservice candidates to join the education workforce. We need someone who can help us scale the program: a hands-on, entrepreneurial team member who is detail-oriented, drives the work forward, and makes a difference by providing a meaningful career path for students called to be educators.
Primary Duties:
- Liaise between the California Department of Education, California school districts, and the PDK national office to coordinate and implement common goals for success.
- Partner with schools and districts to establish Educators Rising CTE curriculum sites that introduce high school students to the teaching profession. Identify skilled teachers to serve as teacher leaders and provide resources to support student recruitment.
- Expand the participation of districts, schools, and students in the program through regular information sessions.
- Prepare and facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) for teacher leaders through training sessions, professional learning communities, and consultative sessions as teachers implement the Educators Rising standards through curriculum, competitions, and programming. Conduct Educators Rising Curriculum Trainings at the district, state, regional, and national level as needed.
- Support and expand existing partnerships between high schools and local institutes of higher education to open opportunities for dual credit and/or enrollment.
- Build and maintain relationships with school and district leaders to oversee and coordinate the implementation of the Educators Rising program across school sites. Encourage districts to complete the Grow Your Own cycle by hiring former Educators Rising students as new teachers.
- Hold regular state-level meetings with teacher leaders to educate and hold participants accountable for their part in our student's success.
- Plan and execute an annual state conference, which includes breakout sessions and student competitions. Solicit sponsorships and philanthropic support to support the conference and promote conference sustainability.
- Facilitate the selection of state-level student leaders and coordinate their participation in the governance of Educators Rising.
- Identify and apply for potential revenue or fundraising resources to keep district and student costs down.
- Travel to local districts to conduct site visits, and travel once a year to the Educators Rising National Conference.
- Track and report data from school sites actively using the Educators Rising Curriculum to PDK's National Office, including student enrollment numbers, demographic information, and pertinent details of individual courses, such as opportunities for dual credit and/or enrollment. Assist districts with grant data collection and aggregation tasks related to the Golden State Pathways Grant program.
- Ensure all Educators Rising student members registered at the state level are also registered at the national level.
- Meet and report on deliverables outlined in the Golden State Pathways Grant Program. Provide consultation to districts and PDK National Staff to help complete grant reports for the CDE.
- Assist the Educators Rising national office staff with a twice-per-year program “wellness check,” which includes administering an online survey, created by the Educators Rising national office staff, to all Educators Rising members in your state.
- Additional duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional emotional intelligence, compassion, and self-awareness combined with the strength of conviction, and “steel” in the face of adversity. Oh, and humor too.
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred OR commensurate work experience
- 3+ years of experience in K-12 education; experience with CTE is preferred.
- Experience in district administration, grant administration, or state education department administration is a plus
- Demonstrated understanding of school, district, and state education agency sales cycle, budget process, and purchasing process
- Experience with the consultative communication process
- A demonstrated ability to mediate discussions by recognizing underlying hesitations and overcoming concerns
- Proven track record of excelling in a fast-paced work environment and managing time effectively
- Ability to execute but not be limited to linear thinking and a willingness to lead and innovate
- Confident, assertive, and goal-oriented with the ability to learn quickly and effectively, and apply learned processes into practice
- Exceptional verbal and written communicator
- Experience with education technology including but not limited to learning management systems (LMS) and contact records management (CRM) preferred
- Has the ability to develop relationships with distinct leaders and/or local funders. As this role is grant-funded applicants must have the ability to open doors to funding sources and or create resource opportunities for the successful continuation of the impact in the state and the growth of the program
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)
- Experience with planning and executing large events
- Must live in California; Central or Southern California preferred.
Compensation:
Educators Rising is prepared to offer a salary of $85,000 as base compensation for the role, depending on experience, as well as opportunities for bonuses, commissions, and a generous 403(b), vacation, and health benefits.
